NMEA to Interactive HTML Map
Turn a NMEA log into a map you can keep. This browser-side converter reads common NMEA 0183 sentences, AIS position messages and NMEA 2000 gateway/CAN capture text, then draws each position source separately. Export one standalone HTML map, KML, GPX or CSV. Your file never leaves this browser.

What this NMEA map converter reads
| Input | Examples | Map result |
|---|---|---|
| NMEA 0183 text | $GPRMC, $GPGGA, $GPGLL, $GPWPL | GPS track, waypoints and position statistics |
| AIS NMEA | !AIVDM, !AIVDO | Separate vessel tracks grouped by MMSI |
| NMEA 2000 text logs | Actisense PLAIN, $PCDIN, $MXPGN, CANboat, candump | Tracks grouped by source address; common navigation PGNs decoded |
The tool keeps unknown and manufacturer-specific NMEA 2000 PGNs in the parsed table with their raw CAN ID and payload. NMEA 2000 binary captures and live CAN hardware connections are not assumed to be text logs; use the NMEA Viewer & Analyzer for detailed inspection.
How to convert NMEA to an HTML map
- Drop a
.nmea,.logor.txtfile, or paste the log text. - Check the summary and preview. Multiple NMEA 2000 source addresses and AIS MMSIs stay as separate tracks.
- Choose a basemap. Embedded tiles are selected by default; no-basemap mode is the smallest fully offline option.
- Download one standalone HTML map, or export KML, GPX or a row-by-row CSV.
NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 without uploading
NMEA 0183 is readable text built from sentences such as RMC and GGA. NMEA 2000 carries CAN frames identified by PGNs, so a gateway log can contain position, heading, depth, wind, battery and other boat-network messages in one file. This page extracts the location messages for a map while preserving the complete parsed log for export.
NMEA 2000 support covers common text representations, not every proprietary recorder format. Unknown PGNs are shown rather than silently discarded. For PGN fields, raw bytes and checksum diagnostics, use the dedicated online NMEA viewer.
FAQ
Can I convert NMEA to Google Maps?
Use the KML or CSV export, then import it into Google My Maps or another mapping application. This page does not send your log to Google and does not require a Google account.
Does this support NMEA 2000?
Yes, for common text logs and CAN capture lines such as Actisense/CANboat PLAIN, SeaSmart $PCDIN, MiniPlex $MXPGN, Yacht Devices-style lines and common candump forms. It decodes common navigation PGNs and keeps unknown payloads visible.
Does it support NMEA 2000 binary files?
Not as a blanket promise. Binary recorder files vary by gateway. The browser tool accepts text exports and captures; the file is never uploaded.
Can I use an AIS log?
Yes. AIVDM and AIVDO messages are decoded into vessel positions when they contain a position report. Tracks are grouped by MMSI instead of being mixed into one line.
What happens to lines that do not contain a position?
They remain available in the parsed CSV export and in the NMEA Viewer & Analyzer. The map only draws valid coordinates.
